Read Matthew 6:5-34

Being Rooted and Blessed is intentionally relying on God for everything. In Jerimiah 17:8, it says that those who trust in the Lord will be like a tree planted by the water. Jesus spoke of this living water in John 14:4, and John 7:38 as water he alone can give. When we seek other ways of receiving what we need, we are not allowing God of the Universe to be Lord of our life. Earlier in Jerimiah 2:13, God says that seeking other ways of provision is, like forsaking God himself, and like digging our own well that is broken and can’t hold water. In other words, it doesn’t work.

What exactly are we seeking and trusting God to provide? Matthew 6:25-34 mentions. Finances, clothing, food, and your future. 2 Timothy 1:7 and Isaiah 26:3 suggests a sound mind, or sanity. 2 Thessalonians 3:16, Romans 15:13, and Philippians 4:13 says joy, peace, and strength even our emotional and mental health. Proverbs 2:6 and James 1:5, Suggests wisdom and guidance. In a nutshell literally EVERYTHING that pertains to this life. 2 Peter 1:3

How do we do this? Though simple, it's not necessarily easy. Especially when going through hard times. Proverbs 3:5-5, 16:3, Psalm 37:5, Colossians 3:17, and 3:23, all say it is as easy as acknowledging God in all we do. A lot of things can distract or deceive us into seeking provision in other places. As we learned in our first study Satan enticed Adam and Eve to seek wisdom on their own. Pride has a way of tricking us into doing something on our own, then going back to God and saying, “Look what I did, I did it for you.”
Now I'm not one for repeating repetitive prayers, that have no personal meaning, but when Jesus was asked how to pray, he said what we call the Our Father, in Matthew 6:9-15 and Luke 11:1-13. When I’m having a bad day and can hardly think at all, I will pray pretty much word for word. Thankfully my Catholic background has ingrained the prayer into my head. However, I usually like to personalize it. It sounds something like this:
“ Father God, thank you for everything you’ve given me,
great are you and may you be honored for ever.
May Your kingdom and will be done on earth, in my life, in my mind, heart and body, as it is in heaven.
Give me all I need today, mentally, physically, emotionally, as well as sustenance.
Forgive me of all my sin,
and help me forgive others that have sinned against me.
May your Spirit lead me from falling into temptation. Protect me from the enemy’s plans. I ask this all In Jesus precious name. Amen.”

Now if you’ve been married for any length of time, you know that if you don't acknowledge one another, you start to feel like roommates instead of the best friends you were when you got married. God is the same way. If it isn’t easy for us to keep that relationship going with our spouse who we can see, how much harder it is to keep that relationship going with God who we can't see? This is where Rooted and Blessed comes into play, as a physical reminder to intentionally cultivate our relationship with God.
Thank you for joining the journey to becoming Rooted and Blessed. Please let me know how this study has impacted you. Keep watch for our next study. Until next time check out my blog to see how applying these Rooted and Blessed principals, has affected my life personally.
